This one is hard.

I'm thankful for my grandmother.

She passed away several years ago, but I still feel her presence. She often shows up in my dreams, usually when I'm doing something I shouldn't (which is a weird sort of conscience to have, but I like it).

More than dreams, though, my grandmother left her mark writ large in my mind, and in my life. She paid for me to go to college - that's the big one, financially, but not the biggest thing emotionally.

My grandmother was, her whole life, a strong, capable, pragmatic, and compassionate woman, the matriarch of our family and its guiding light. I have endeavored to be like her. I will always endeavor to be like her.

I am immensely grateful that I had her for a grandmother.

I may or may not have mentioned that there has been a young man attacking women near my home for the last month or so. He was caught yesterday. He's FIFTEEN YEARS OLD. How does someone that age start attacking and raping women? Incredible.

Your result for The Nerd? Geek? or Dork? Test...

Modern, Cool Nerd

70 % Nerd, 52% Geek, 13% Dork

For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.

A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.

A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

You scored better than half in Nerd and Geek, earning you the title of: Modern, Cool Nerd.

Nerds didn't use to be cool, but in the 90's that all changed. It used to be that, if you were a computer expert, you had to wear plaid or a pocket protector or suspenders or something that announced to the world that you couldn't quite fit in. Not anymore. Now, the intelligent and geeky have eked out for themselves a modicum of respect at the very least, and "geek is chic." The Modern, Cool Nerd is intelligent, knowledgable and always the person to call in a crisis (needing computer advice/an arcane bit of trivia knowledge). They are the one you want as your lifeline in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (or the one up there, winning the million bucks)!

Congratulations!

Also, you might want to check out some of my other tests if you're interested in any of the following:

Today, I am thankful for my parents. Okay, I'm always thankful for my parents, but today I'll write on it.

I'm grateful that I have loving, caring parents who did their best to raise me to be a healthy, happy, thoughtful, responsible adult. I'm glad that they're still a part of my life. I'm stupidly grateful that they still help me out when I need it. :-)

Today my heater decided to be a pain in the butt. The blower won't function properly unless it's turned up to level 3. I've had that issue for awhile. It's annoying, but not worth the money to try to fix it. Today, though, that issue was joined by a new one. The air being blown stays cold unless I'm traveling over 20 mph. So, driving down the highway with light traffic? I'm toasty. During rush hour? That air is COLD. Cold cold cold.

Add these things to the need for new brakes (possibly rotors, too) and the clunk clunk clunk sound that my car makes when I turn...

I need a new car. Or a bunch of money. Or both.

I don't see either happening in the immediate future. *SIGH*

It goes without saying that I am thankful for my friends, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't say it.

Today, I am thankful for my chosen family, my kin, my dear loved ones, my friends. I'm thankful for those of you I've known for years and years, who have done silly things like drive 8 hours in a weekend so that I could go to a LARP (or more than that just to visit over a holiday weekend, who have been there at midnight when I called crying.

I'm thankful for the online presence that keeps me sane. I'm thankful for keeping me grounded. I'm thankful for calling me on my bullshit... and I'm thankful for needing me just a little.

..Just another brick in the wall [userpic]

So
I am back in the world of livejournal after dropping in now and again over the last few months... well, maybe even bordering on years. That is what a lack of internet access can do to a person. Lack of access combined with many other factors

Anyway, my biggest and best news would be my uber cute niece
Meet Alycia Josie Angel Rice
She is the shizznit =^.^=

Photobucket
First ever hold. I nearly squeeled and awwwww'd myself into oblivion
Photobucket
This was taken the day after she was born
Don't ask why my hair looks a completely different colour than it did the previous day. I have no idea. Maybe I have magical hair that only works around babies... um, yeah
Photobucket
This is now. She is the business and I love her to pieces

Yes. I have about ten billion pictures of Alycia. She isn't even 3 months old yet. What can I say? I am camera happy. I've never had a niece/nephew before. Now, I have her. Plus, my brother and his girlfriend are expecting a baby boy on December 20th. Christmas = Baby zone haha!

Alycia even has her own song. I am an Ian Brown freak. I mean, damn I am obsessed. I loved The Stone Roses but when he went solo, oh my poosticks. It doesn't get better than Brown. I had been waiting for his new album 'My Way' and on the day Alycia was born I heard the first track from the album for the first time. It's called Stellify and the lyrics = eerily perfect

Yeah the first time
When you are stellified
Could be the last chance
I have to sanctify
So save the last dance
For me my love cause I
I see you as an angel freshly
Fallen from the sky

I made a shrine, I made it for you
I see you are an angel
All the things that you do
And now I found tomorrow
With you I'm miles high
Shining like a diamond
in the darkness of the sky

I stellify
I'm miles high
I stellify

And so we're miles above
Our ribbon in the sky
And it's the real love
I see so in your eyes
So save the last dance
For me my love cause I
I see you as an angel freshly
Fallen from the sky

I made a shrine
That stands here for you
I see you are an angel
All the things that you do
No one knows tomorrow
The future stands to find
This rockets starts ablazing so for you
I stellify

I stellify
I'm miles high
I stellify

Yeah the first time
When you are stellified
Could be the last chance
I have to sanctify
So save the last dance
For me my love cause I
I see you as an angel freshly
Fallen from the sky

I made a shrine
With candles for you
I see you are an angel
All the things that you do
Now I found tomorrow
with you I stellify
Throw my arms above
Cause now I fly and touch the sky

I stellify
I'm miles high
I stellify

So I have been insanely busy! Gauge is in Pre-K, Josh is joining the Air Force Reserve, and I have been trying to get things together so I can go back to school in the Spring, I absolutely can't believe this year has gone by as fast as it has. It's been a little crazy with my wreck, us trying to get our house renovated so we can move it. (Hopefully by Christmas! Cross your fingers for me!) Photoshoots, Planning for School, and all the other wackiness that has been going on. It should start calming down here soon, and I am more than ready for that!

Halloween was a blast! We went to an awesome haunted house and then went to the bar for their Halloween party, and to see the local metal bands play. I made my costume this year and it came out much prettier than I ever thought it would! I missed the costume contest and I was PISSED! I will probably wear it again next year with a different hat. I only got to wear it for a few hours, so it didn't get shown off properly. I also did a radio show interview on Halloween for a radio show for Deadbabes. I was nervous but it was a lot of fun, and I think I did a decent job of sounding eloquent. Josh is a little sick, he has a sinus infection and a really bad sore throat, but he stuck it out at the bar and we wound up having a lot of fun.

Halloween Hotness! )

I am really looking forward to the Holiday season, and I REALLY hope we get to spend Christmas in our own house this year. I am so excited about having a place that's ours and we can decorate the way we want. I look forward to decorating for the Christmas season! The end of this month we're going back to Silverton for Thanksgiving. Josh and I alternate years, Thanksgiving with my famiy one year, and with his the next. I love going down there, his family, especially is gradmama are so sweet. She is 96 years old! One of the sweetest little old ladies you will ever meet. She reminds me a lot of my Memaw, and it's hard sometimes, because I miss my memaw so very much, but it's comforting too. The only thing I hate is it's a 9 hour drive one way, and Gauge starts to get bored about the 2 hour mark, but at least he will be six almost seven the next time we go down there. He's really loving Pre-K and doing so well. He's already learned his ABC's, his numbers, and he can write his name. I am insanely proud! He is already ready to go to Kindergarten he's been telling me lol.

Speaking of kids, Josh has baby fever and I am just like NO! I think Gauge is plenty, but he really wants another kid. I don't know if I want to do all this again! No sleep, Stretch marks, Potty Training, Twice as hard to find a sitter, The toddler years, UGH. I think I will just stick with the one lol. Anyway my little ghouls, I need to finish some stuff and then get some sleep! Sweet Dreams or Nightmares to all!

This morning I went to the DMV and renewed my vehicle registration, then I voted in the gubernatorial race, along with the three other elections that were going on in Virginia. I'm pleased with McDonnell being elected governor. No surprise there.

Sons of Anarchy comes on in 10 minutes. This season has been steadily escalating. I'm LOVING it.
